Kurzthese:

A short talk on the work the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the UK are undertaking with the Open Data Institute (theodi.org) and others to make statistics on the web more useable for the general public *and* the specialist user.

Beschreibung:

Think you have worked on some difficult projects?

The ONS website has been called “a national embarrassment” in the Financial Times, “the world’s worst website” in a best-selling book, “virtually unnavigable” in the Guardian and was the subject of a UK Parliamentary Select Committee investigation.

Bet you don’t feel so bad now do you?

The talk will be an honest assessment of why things got so bad, what we are trying to do to fix things and where we hope to get to in the future.
